Pasko: Christmas in the Philippines


The Philippines being a predominantly Christian nation celebrates "Pasko" or Christmas every December 25. Filipinos often greet and say "Maligayang Pasko" to one another.


Christmas is one of the most celebrated holidays in the country, with Catholics completing the 9 consecutive masses leading to Christmas Eve every 4 am in the morning.


The 9 masses that end in Christmas Eve is very popular because many people believe that if you complete all 9 masses, your one wish will be granted.



Every household decorate their homes with parols, or lanterns which symbolize the star which led the three kings to visit the baby Jesus.



Houses also are decorated with lights. Those with a lot of lights become attractions to locals.


Parks are also adorned with lights. people enjoy its beauty every night starting December 1.



At Christmas Eve, families share a feast of special dishes. It is also a time for family members who have not gone home for a long time to visit their family members.


Christmas songs hit the radio as early as September. Surprised? it's normal in the Philippines which celebrates the longest Christmas season. It is from September to January. Whew. Groups of kids visit houses houses and sing Christmas carols. Cute and entertaining ^^


Christmas is special to children since they would receive presents from their parents, godparents and others. It is also common for people to visit poor families and street children and give them gifts.


                Individuals or groups also go to hospitals and share their blessings.

                   Come to the Philippines and feel the Christmas spirit!
