Paraw Regatta: A Reflection of Iloilo's Spirit

 

    Paraw Regatta is one of a kind. It is the grandest sailing event in the Philippines and the oldest event using crafts in Asia. This 2012 is its 39th year of existence and of bringig joy to locals and visitors.


    The festival is held to celebrate the skills or sailors of the paraw, a kind of boat that utilizes the sail, the wind, and the sailor's adept hands in order to sail.
    Visit Iloilo every third weekend of February and be a part of this festival. It is a week long celebration that features activities for everyone to enjoy.

    Samba music, energizing and dance worthy, is heard on the beach. You can let the inner dancer out with this kind of music. 

    One of the main events in Paraw Regatta is the boat race participated by Filipino sailors.

    Eye catching also are the dancers in their colorful costumes during the Samba Regatta, a contest among schools.

    The sports-minded can also have something to look forward to: the frisbee competition.
